Looks to me like SMIT is allowing vessels to run aground so that they can make a killing on the clean-up. Do the math. SMIT makes more money when a ship runs aground than when they prevent a ship from running aground. A Marine Board of Inquiry should have been convened. SMIT and SAMSA should be held accountable for these failures (PHOENIX and SEL1)

A lot of unanswered questions of :

Smit-Amandla have a contract with the Sa Government to prevent this sort of thing from happening – doesnt sound like the tug crew covered themselves in glory.

Samsa – for trying to arrest the vessel and thereby bringing her towards the coastline rather than away from it.

Thank you Colleen, please note, we are new in the industry, lack expertise, and maritime industry development require a partnership with current, and retired industry players to come forward and volunteer in building the foundation for the future. Some people may be prospecting for business opportunities only, and may not look into a environmentally friendly, viable business platform development for our country, with critical skills base for its sustainability. There may be natural challenges as well, which can be managed, if we are forward looking and passionate about our maritime industry, and its future.
